| \n\t\t\t\tOnly online lectures! \n\t\t\t\tAll lectures are online! For each week, I will discuss one theme through 1-2 short lecture videos that you access and view via IVLE. There will be no face-to-face lectures. \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tFace-to-face seminars \n\t\t\t\tFrom week 3, tutorial groups of up to 30 pupils will meet once every two weeks for 2-hour seminars. Tutorial groups D1 and D2 will meet during odd weeks while tutorial groups E1 and E2 will meet during even weeks. At the beginning of the semester, you will be asked to sign up for the tutorial groups. Once you have signed up, you must keep to your group and attend only the tutorials for your group. You cannot simply turn up for whichever group you like from week to week. If you do so, all your participation marks will be voided. \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tDuring these tutorials, the discussions will be based on tutorial questions that are posted in advance on IVLE. YOU MUST WATCH THE LECTURES AND READ THE READINGS BEFORE THE TUTORIAL. For our discussion to be fun and fruitful, and for you all to score those precious participation marks, active involvement in class is crucial. I am looking forward to working with you to making this new class a rewarding learning experience for all of us! But please read our classroom policy carefully: \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tAttendance policy \n\t\t\t\tStudents are expected to attend every tutorial and to arrive on time. If your attendance is not recorded during the first 15 minutes of the class, you will be considered as absent. If you have two or more unexcused absences during the semester, your class participation grade will be negatively affected. Official absences include official university activities and health or family emergencies (ONLY). You must submit proper and verifiable documentation before an excused absence can be approved. When possible, inform us of potential absences in advance prior email. Title the email with – name, student ID number, reason (e.g. absence due to school sporting event). \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tDiversity in the classroom \n\t\t\t\tStudents will embrace and respect diversity in all its forms, including perspectives and points of view. Discriminatory comments, whether online or offline, will NOT be tolerated. The goal is to create a stimulating, challenging and inclusive learning environment in the classroom. \n\t\t\t\tThis environment also requires that you listen when others are talking, treat others courteously and professionally and engage in meaningful class discussions and team assignments. Disrespectful, disruptive, and demeaning actions and behavior have no place in the classroom and will NOT be tolerated. You will be treated and respected as a mature adult. \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tElectronic device policy \n\t\t\t\tAs ironic as it seems, and for us to truly appreciate the impact of new technology, this will be a no-device class. Students are prohibited from using their laptops, tablets, mobiles and other electronic devices during tutorials. You can take notes using pen and paper. \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tGraciousness \n\t\t\t\tAll students are to refrain from eating in class. It is rude to others who are not eating and makes the classroom smell. You will be asked to leave if you are seen eating during tutorials. \n\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\t\t \n\t\t\t\tStudents with Special Needs\n\t\t\t\tAll students are expected to participate fully in this course. Any students who have special circumstances that could impair class performance must inform the lecturer right away.
