\nStudents will learn about the responses of Singapore and another Southeast Asian country to wildlife protection and be able to compare and contrast conditions, relating these to the social, economic, and cultural setting of each country. Case studies in both countries will provide a strong opportunity for identifying important and effective practices, and determining whether these are cross-applicable to either country. Students will understand that the success of a wildlife management programme depends on a holistic understanding of the social and cultural issues, the scientific underpinning, and the legal and governance structures. They will gain an over-all appreciation of the inter-disciplinary complexity and challenges of wildlife protection.
