This course will focus on both current and classical themes in mathematical biology and will emphasise the acquisition of mathematical skills of relevance to current problems in ecology, evolution and epidemiology.
\n
\nStudents will learn the history of mathematical biology and basic concepts such as the definition and purpose of a model and of a theory. They will acquire a toolbox of essential mathematical skills that they can apply to current problems. These skills include matrix population modelling, analysis of dynamical systems, game theory and adaptive dynamics, and reaction-advection-diffusion models. The students will also gain familiarity with the software R.
