Special focus is on controlling the chemo-, regio-, and stereo-selectivity. As preliminaries, a number of relevant chemical aspects and analytical methods are introduced. Homogeneous, heterogeneous, and enzyme catalysis are emphasised for the syntheses of many important pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals. This naturally leads to a host of important environmental issues and green chemical technologies. Important unit operations in pharmaceutical and fine chemical productions are also included in this module. This module is for both PG and UG students.","ModuleCredit":"4","Workload":"3-0-0-3-4","Preclusion":"CN4232","ExamDate":"2015-04-29T13:00+0800","ExamDuration":"P2H","ExamVenue":"E5-03-20/21","Types":["Module"],"Lecturers":["Li Zhi"],"IVLE":[{"Announcements":null,"Forums":[],"Workbins":[],"Webcasts":[],"Gradebooks":[],"Polls":[],"Multimedia":[],"LessonPlan":[],"ID":"28a58ec5-1074-4c27-bd8f-f8a6a20d2def","CourseLevel":"1","CourseCode":"CN5222","CourseName":"PHARMACEUTICALS & FINE CHEMICALS","CourseDepartment":"","CourseSemester":"Semester 2","CourseAcadYear":"2014/2015","CourseOpenDate":"/Date(1420612980000+0800)/","CourseOpenDate_js":"2015-01-07T14:43:00","CourseCloseDate":"/Date(1431100800000+0800)/","CourseCloseDate_js":"2015-05-09T00:00:00","CourseMC":"0","isActive":"N","Permission":"S","Creator":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Li Zhi","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"8ad640f7-5a71-4838-909f-19e7566d3ddf","AccountType":null},"hasGradebookItems":true,"hasTimetableItems":true,"hasGroupsItems":false,"hasClassGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasGuestRosterItems":false,"hasClassRosterItems":true,"hasWeblinkItems":false,"hasLecturerItems":true,"hasDescriptionItems":true,"hasReadingItems":true,"hasAnnouncementItems":false,"hasProjectGroupItems":false,"hasProjectGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasConsultationItems":false,"hasConsultationSlotsForSignUp":false,"hasLessonPlanItems":false,"Badge":0,"BadgeAnnouncement":0,"WebLinks":[],"Lecturers":[{"ID":"ff9ee655-f4f6-4585-aec5-bc678bb8f176","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Li Zhi","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"8ad640f7-5a71-4838-909f-19e7566d3ddf","AccountType":null},"Role":"Lecturer ","Order":1,"ConsultHrs":null}],"Descriptions":[{"ID":"1e5f053b-8835-4692-be49-41f07234cfff","Title":"Learning Outcomes","Description":"The objective of this module is to provide an overview of different aspects of pharmaceutical and fine chemical synthesis. Emphasis is placed on the importance of controlling chemo-, regio-, and stereo-selectivity. As preliminaries, a number of relevant chemical aspects and analytic methods are introduced. Since many important pharmaceutical and fine chemical syntheses are metal-mediated, emphasis is given to homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis. This naturally leads to a host of important environmental issues, green chemical technologies, and biocatalytical processes. Important unit operations in pharmaceutical and fine chemical productions are also included in this module. This is both a PG and UG module targeted at students who are interested in chemical reaction engineering and other special considerations required for the pharmaceutical and fine chemical industries.
