{"ModuleCode":"GEK2050","ModuleTitle":"Digital Humanities in Arts Research","Department":"English Language & Literature","ModuleDescription":"The Digital Humanities (DH) constitute exciting new ways of theorizing and practising research in the arts and humanities, from thinking about the role of social media in contemporary culture to running statistical tests on large textual corpora. This module introduces DH through the humanities’ emphasis on discussion and interpretation. A broad range of debates on the impact of digital media in culture are paired with digital methods for analysing cultural phenomena across several humanities disciplines. Reflecting the multiple approaches within DH, teaching combines seminar discussions of topics with hands-on training in web programming, text encoding and video processing techniques.","ModuleCredit":"4","Workload":"1-1-1-0-7","Types":["GEM"],"CorsBiddingStats":[{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"1","Round":"1C","Group":"Lecture 1","Quota":"100","Bidders":"0","LowestBid":"0","LowestSuccessfulBid":"0","HighestBid":"0","Faculty":"Arts & Social Sciences","StudentAcctType":"Reserved for [G] in later round"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"1","Round":"2A","Group":"Lecture 1","Quota":"100","Bidders":"17","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1","HighestBid":"600","Faculty":"Arts & Social Sciences","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"1","Round":"2B","Group":"Lecture 1","Quota":"83","Bidders":"10","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1","HighestBid":"63","Faculty":"Arts & Social Sciences","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"1","Round":"3A","Group":"Lecture 1","Quota":"74","Bidders":"6","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1","HighestBid":"778","Faculty":"Arts & Social Sciences","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"1","Round":"3B","Group":"Lecture 1","Quota":"69","Bidders":"6","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1","HighestBid":"100","Faculty":"Arts & Social Sciences","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"}],"AcadYear":"2014/2015","History":[{"Semester":1,"Timetable":[{"ClassNo":"1","LessonType":"Lecture","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1200","EndTime":"1300","Venue":"LT9"},{"ClassNo":"W1","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Tuesday","StartTime":"1200","EndTime":"1400","Venue":"AS5-0309"},{"ClassNo":"W2","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1400","EndTime":"1600","Venue":"AS5-0202"},{"ClassNo":"W3","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1600","EndTime":"1800","Venue":"AS5-0202"},{"ClassNo":"W4","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Friday","StartTime":"1400","EndTime":"1600","Venue":"AS5-0202"}],"IVLE":[{"Announcements":null,"Forums":[],"Workbins":[],"Webcasts":[],"Gradebooks":[],"Polls":[],"Multimedia":[],"LessonPlan":[],"ID":"be6024d6-d645-4cc8-8a51-3cacb5d4878e","CourseLevel":"1","CourseCode":"GEK2050","CourseName":"DIGITAL HUMANITIES IN ARTS RESEARCH","CourseDepartment":"","CourseSemester":"Semester 1","CourseAcadYear":"2014/2015","CourseOpenDate":"/Date(1405267200000+0800)/","CourseOpenDate_js":"2014-07-14T00:00:00","CourseCloseDate":"/Date(1417881540000+0800)/","CourseCloseDate_js":"2014-12-06T23:59:00","CourseMC":"0","isActive":"N","Permission":"S","Creator":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Yong Li Lan","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"fffeb18c-34c4-4ef8-94f5-6fa495727e2b","AccountType":null},"hasGradebookItems":false,"hasTimetableItems":true,"hasGroupsItems":false,"hasClassGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasGuestRosterItems":false,"hasClassRosterItems":false,"hasWeblinkItems":false,"hasLecturerItems":true,"hasDescriptionItems":true,"hasReadingItems":true,"hasAnnouncementItems":false,"hasProjectGroupItems":false,"hasProjectGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasConsultationItems":false,"hasConsultationSlotsForSignUp":false,"hasLessonPlanItems":false,"Badge":0,"BadgeAnnouncement":0,"WebLinks":[],"Lecturers":[{"ID":"f40f413e-2e1c-4fe8-a363-c57a1613327c","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Yong Li Lan","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"fffeb18c-34c4-4ef8-94f5-6fa495727e2b","AccountType":null},"Role":"Lecturer ","Order":1,"ConsultHrs":null},{"ID":"0e547eb4-40a9-4afb-ba10-982742ae2d1d","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"LIM ENG HUI ALVIN","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"41930112-0f89-4c2c-9375-a532b906203d","AccountType":null},"Role":"Co-Lecturer ","Order":2,"ConsultHrs":null},{"ID":"798d971e-cd37-43d3-8e4c-b7c361d940a0","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"MIGUEL ESCOBAR VARELA","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"826012be-4947-44ab-b92d-0125934be2de","AccountType":null},"Role":"Co-Lecturer ","Order":3,"ConsultHrs":null}],"Descriptions":[{"ID":"b1690a3c-c327-451a-ade5-54a05cc927b4","Title":"Welcome","Description":"Welcome to the IVLE site of GEK2050.

\n\tThe Digital Humanities (DH) are a trending topic and they might shape how we do arts research in the future. We believe the DH are fascinating because they allow us to think differently about our relationship to technology, to learn about the arts in a different way and to combine the skills of people with different backgrounds. We have designed this module to be an interactive, hands-on introduction to this exciting field. We have planned each session to suit the needs of students from different fields, so don't worry if you don't have a background in the arts, or if you don't have a technical background in web programming. Regardless of where you are now, you will come out of this module with a better grasp of the ways in which the humanities, the arts and technology intersect.
\n\t
\n\tWe hope you will enjoy taking this module as much as we have enjoyed preparing it.
\n\tThis is an introductory module. You do not need any previous technical skills or knowledge of the arts to enroll.
