{"ModuleCode":"GEK1547","ModuleTitle":"The Art of Science, the Science of Art","Department":"Physics","ModuleDescription":"It often seems the worlds of science and art are unrelated: Logical truth versus emotional imagination. Still, science and art have much in common. Science has caused paradigm shifts in artistic expression and art is used for engineering design and communication of scientific knowledge. In this module, students will be introduced to: (1) The use of materials and technology related to architecture, sculpture, painting, photography, imaging, etc… (2) The use of color, light, and perspective to create a 3-dimensional illusion. (3) The use of technology for dating and attribution of objects of art. (4) The use of visual art for scientific illustration and design. Knowledge of the scientific principles of various forms of visual art will be explored. The module also aims at the development of some artistic skills for illustrations of scientific concepts and engineering designs.","ModuleCredit":"4","Workload":"2-1-0-1-6","Types":["GEM"],"CorsBiddingStats":[{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"2","Round":"2A","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"90","Bidders":"102","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"90","HighestBid":"2973","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"2","Round":"3A","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"2","Bidders":"7","LowestBid":"3","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1111","HighestBid":"1500","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2014/2015","Semester":"2","Round":"3B","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"3","Bidders":"7","LowestBid":"303","LowestSuccessfulBid":"1500","HighestBid":"1847","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2013/2014","Semester":"2","Round":"2A","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"90","Bidders":"128","LowestBid":"100","LowestSuccessfulBid":"500","HighestBid":"2068","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2012/2013","Semester":"2","Round":"2A","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"90","Bidders":"119","LowestBid":"1","LowestSuccessfulBid":"317","HighestBid":"2597","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"},{"AcadYear":"2012/2013","Semester":"2","Round":"3B","Group":"Lecture Sl1","Quota":"2","Bidders":"5","LowestBid":"100","LowestSuccessfulBid":"907","HighestBid":"1269","Faculty":"Science","StudentAcctType":"NUS Students [G]"}],"AcadYear":"2014/2015","History":[{"Semester":2,"Timetable":[{"ClassNo":"SL1","LessonType":"Lecture","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Tuesday","StartTime":"1600","EndTime":"1800","Venue":"LT21"},{"ClassNo":"SL1","LessonType":"Lecture","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Friday","StartTime":"1600","EndTime":"1800","Venue":"LT21"},{"ClassNo":"ST1","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Monday","StartTime":"1500","EndTime":"1600","Venue":"S12-0402"},{"ClassNo":"ST2","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Monday","StartTime":"1600","EndTime":"1700","Venue":"S12-0402"},{"ClassNo":"ST3","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1000","EndTime":"1100","Venue":"S12-0402"},{"ClassNo":"ST4","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1100","EndTime":"1200","Venue":"S12-0402"},{"ClassNo":"ST5","LessonType":"Tutorial","WeekText":"Every Week","DayText":"Thursday","StartTime":"1200","EndTime":"1300","Venue":"S12-0402"}],"IVLE":[{"Announcements":null,"Forums":[],"Workbins":[],"Webcasts":[],"Gradebooks":[],"Polls":[],"Multimedia":[],"LessonPlan":[],"ID":"c813247d-3644-4047-b22f-731b27abc89d","CourseLevel":"1","CourseCode":"GEK1547","CourseName":"THE ART OF SCIENCE, THE SCIENCE OF ART","CourseDepartment":"","CourseSemester":"Semester 2","CourseAcadYear":"2014/2015","CourseOpenDate":"/Date(1415462400000+0800)/","CourseOpenDate_js":"2014-11-09T00:00:00","CourseCloseDate":"/Date(1431187140000+0800)/","CourseCloseDate_js":"2015-05-09T23:59:00","CourseMC":"0","isActive":"N","Permission":"S","Creator":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Ng Siow Yee","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"86bd69a7-8da7-4a00-803d-8ed3f773c7fd","AccountType":null},"hasGradebookItems":true,"hasTimetableItems":true,"hasGroupsItems":false,"hasClassGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasGuestRosterItems":false,"hasClassRosterItems":true,"hasWeblinkItems":false,"hasLecturerItems":true,"hasDescriptionItems":true,"hasReadingItems":false,"hasAnnouncementItems":false,"hasProjectGroupItems":false,"hasProjectGroupsForSignUp":false,"hasConsultationItems":false,"hasConsultationSlotsForSignUp":false,"hasLessonPlanItems":false,"Badge":0,"BadgeAnnouncement":0,"WebLinks":[],"Lecturers":[{"ID":"45f6a73a-eb7a-4c11-be97-d4abe8953e28","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Johan R C Van Der Maarel","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"2aff6598-d48f-48f5-b314-d8a69e777a96","AccountType":null},"Role":"Lecturer ","Order":1,"ConsultHrs":null},{"ID":"27f73fc1-c104-418c-a468-02acd128bd07","User":{"UserID":null,"Name":"Ng Siow Yee","Email":null,"Title":null,"UserGuid":"86bd69a7-8da7-4a00-803d-8ed3f773c7fd","AccountType":null},"Role":"Tutor ","Order":2,"ConsultHrs":null}],"Descriptions":[{"ID":"5e5f053b-8835-4692-be49-41f07234cfff","Title":"Synopsis","Description":"It often seems the worlds of science and art are unrelated: Logical truth versus emotional imagination.
